A walk in the fog

The past two days, London has been pretty much under fog. Maybe 50m visibility, maybe less. Bethie and i took a short walk in our favourite park this afternoon, so i took a few photos.

Park

Took a walk today.

What's a walk in the park without a beer on the way home? To be sure, to be sure.

Curry!

Decided to cook a hot Chicken Madras tonight. Delicious! Quite hot but not the hottest ever, though i did sweat a litre or so...

The other pan is my flatmate's Chilli Con Carne, which was also quite good.

Bethie of course couldn't eat a hot curry, i took this when i suggested some chilli's would help with her sniuses...not so sure she'll give it a go somehow...

Skype! and late and early sun.

It's a great thing to be able to have a video chat with folks back home. Beth's here Skyping with her sister Sarah, while i snapped away with the Chili's on the cans.

And a couple of mixed shots from the past few days. Around 0degC when i took these!

Winding your way down on Baker Street

Caught the tube the other day, to Number 2 of my English music destinations. It was again surreal to be in the spot that's mentioned in a famous song/album, while listening to it on the trusty iPod.

I imagine it's quite different to what Gerry Rafferty was seeing 30 years ago. Baker Street is also slightly significant to me as my uncle called my folks from a phonebox here, to see if I was yet born, though the song wasn't released till the following year.

A better future

I was online, watching the results of the Federal Election back home come in, I looked out into morning sky, wondering if the Labor's Party's figures would hold up.

Could it be true? Could there be more smart people out there than i'd thought, this time 'round?

Sure enough, there was and Australia's citizens slaughtered the old conservative guard in the only real poll and convincingly voted for a new Prime Minister.

About bloody time.

Aussie Democracy

Gotta love Australian democracy! Even when you're not in the country, you can vote!

Beth and I rocked up to Australia House today, to vote in Saturday's (Oz time) Federal Election. I got ahead of some other person, simply because the scrutineer is an Eels fan. Good move wearing the jersey Luzzo ;)

God i hope the decade of disgrace can end.

Go Kev.

Big man, pig man. Haha, charade you are!

Battersea Power Station, site of the photography for Pink Floyd's 1977 album, Animals. A surreal experience, standing in front of this imposing structure while listening to the album on the trusty iPod. Just awesome. Hoping for some better angles next time.

A home

We've moved into a house, finally. Thanks to Sheva for 4 nights stay at her place, much appreciated after the stay at the alledged guesthouse.

First up here is a few of our street, then a view from our upstairs bedroom and finally the front of our place. It's a great location, very quiet and our flatemates are pleasant.

West Minster Abbey

Wow. What a place. Simply extraordinary. This comes from an aethiest mind you. I had no idea how much royal history was in the Abbey. So many Kings and Queens, buried, honoured. Servants and war leaders too. Just breathtaking, i'm sure i'll go again.

To be at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth, to walk on paths and be in rooms that people from almost 1000 years past sat. Chapter House was fascinating, a place where politicians and monks sat and discussed everything. The history of the building itself, all brilliant. Sadly no photography is allowed in the Abbey but i got a couple from outside.

Then my lunchtime drink was a Luscombe Ginger beer! An organic farm in Devon makes this stuff, small world eh? :)

More London

Just some images to give a feel for our surrounds.

Found a home

Thankfully we've found a share house to move into! Living with 4 or 5 others (not sure if the other room available was taken by a single or a couple) It's nice and warm, huge room, small backyard and well priced. Wireless internet so i'll be an internerd again very soon and it's close to a tube and shops and not far for me to ride a pushy to work. We saw 5 other places and this was the best by far. Very relieved, it was getting quite nerve wrecking waiting to find out.

Off to the city today for a poke around, no blue skies today, quite grey and extra chilly.

Piccadilly Circus

Here's Beth at Piccadilly Circus, our first trip into the city. When i walked up the stairs from the tube station, i got my first big "oh wow!" moment. THIS is LONDON. Pretty exciting. Many more of those to come i guess, can't wait.

Old London Town

Beth's friend Sheva, kindly met us at Heathrow and shouted us our first British beer.
On a 10 minute walk from our lodgings, i counted 5 pubs. And we're in a mediumly populated area, i believe there will be many more to find :)

It's great to be in England, finally. Everyone at home is dearly missed, particularly my parents. But in time i guess we just get used to these things. The air is chilly but the sky is clear, the sun is very low and the town we're in is just so quaint. Many, many photographic opportunites await, really looking forward to getting stuck into some shooting.

Sorry for too few postings, not a lot of time and limited net access. Hopefully we'll find a house to share soon and be back online.

Bangkok to London

So we've now made it to London. The flight wasn't too bad, but still long. Saw some amazing scenery from the air, the Himalaya's was probably the highlight, though the deserts of India, Pakistan and Afghanistan are extraordinary. They're huge countries.

Images of Bangkok

Here's a few photos here from my wanderings in Bangkok. I didn't shoot as much as i expected i would, took me some time to adjust to the place. I think a second visit could yield more images.

Bangkok

Arrived late last night, very humid indeed. Can't get internet happening in the hotel room, so probably no Skype or Blog entries till London. AU$4 for 15 minutes for hotel lobby internet, hmmm.

It feels very strange being here, it's a very different place and nothing like i expected. Missing everyone of course, i think i'll feel more comfortable in London. Will keep trying to get the laptop going on the net in our room.

Farewell Home, Hello world.

This is it. In less than 16 hours i'll be London bound, via Bangkok for a spell of course. Bags packed, last delicious family meal at the local chow's had. And what wine! The Maurice O'Shea's was a treat, but it was the Brand's of Coonawarra 1998 Patron's Reserve that was simply steller. So thankyou Dad and Mum for a fine night out with my sis and her hubby, a great way to say farewell. It really won't feel long a'tall, before we catchup in person. The Skype calls with webcam will be very soon indeed :)

It was 30 years ago today

Frightningly i am now 30. It's all downhill from here, right??

This is a lovely photo my photographer friend, Andrew Wilson, shot for Beth and i in his studio this morning. The big adventure begins so very soon.
